Quadrangles (Quadralaterals)

A quadrangle (quadrilateral) is a polygon with

·         4 sides

·         4 angles

·         4 vertices

 Parallelograms:

A parallelogram is a quadrangle with 2 pairs of parallel lines.

(Lines are parallel if they are everywhere the same distance apart.)

Here are some figures that are not parallelograms:

 Quadrangles that are Parallelograms:

Rectangle

A rectangle has four right angles. The sides do not have to be the same length.

 Rhombus

A rhombus 4 sides that are the same length. The angles of a rhombus are usually not right angles, but they may be.

 Square

A square has 4 right angles. All 4 sides are the same length. All squares are rectangles. All squares are rhombuses.

 Quadrangles that are not Parallelograms:

Trapezoid

Only 1 pair of parallel sides.

Kite

The equal sides are next to each other. The 4 sides cannot have the same length.
